About The Position

Avathon is hiring an Engineering Lead to build the core of its Industrial AI platform. The role leads the team responsible for data ingestion and connectors for IT and OT systems, the landing zone and data lake, the ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph, and services that enable models and AI agents to work with platform data. The platform must support multi-tenant SaaS, customer-cloud, and air-gapped edge deployments while making customer deployments faster. This is a hands-on role in Product Engineering: the Engineering Lead writes code, owns architecture, and leads a team of engineers. The role partners with the Platform product manager on roadmap, scope, and release planning, and works with cloud operations and security on deployment models. Candidates must be based in the Bay Area, California, and report to the Pleasanton office five days a week.

Requirements

At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineers.
Experience building data or AI platforms used by other teams.
Strong backend and distributed systems skills in Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
Experience with data pipelines, streaming such as Kafka, lakehouse architectures, and large-scale storage.
Experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Must be based in the Bay Area, California, and report to the Pleasanton office five days a week.

Nice To Haves

Experience building data or AI platforms at Palantir, C3 AI, Databricks, Snowflake, Cognite, or a hyperscaler data or AI team.
Experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, or graph databases.
Experience with industrial data such as OPC-UA, historians, or SCADA, or with edge deployments.

Responsibilities

Own the architecture for data ingestion, including Avathon Data Ingest (ADI) at the edge and reusable connectors for OT protocols and IT systems.
Build the landing zone and Bronze/Silver/Gold processing that turns raw data into clean, governed data.
Set platform standards for data quality, freshness, lineage, and access control.
Own services that map raw data into the ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph.
Ensure the graph is fast and reliable at industrial scale and provide clean APIs for applications to query it.
Work with the Model Hub and agent teams so models and AI agents can safely read from and act on the graph.
Lead and grow a team of platform engineers; set priorities, review designs and code, and mentor team members.
Partner with the Platform product manager on roadmap, scope, and release planning.
Work with cloud operations and security on multi-tenant, single-tenant, on-premise, and edge deployments.
Own the quality, performance, and reliability of platform services.
Write code and own the platform architecture.
