About The Position
Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. is offering a Summer Engineering Internship/Co-op position (onsite) that provides exposure to a manufacturing environment promoting innovation, teamwork, and modern manufacturing practices. This internship is designed to be a resume-building experience, offering hands-on exposure to various aspects of manufacturing. Interns will work directly with a mentor on a manufacturing line, assigned projects that involve designing and implementing solutions for the production line. Progress will be monitored through design reviews. Interns will also shadow their mentors, attend meetings, interact with suppliers, and learn about production flow and improvements. The role emphasizes a "Servant Leader" atmosphere, focusing on problem-solving for manufacturing associates. The internship culminates in a presentation to engineering and management.
Requirements
- Sophomore year completed
- Enrolled in an Accredited Engineering Degree Program
- Temporarily relocate to one of the three Ruger facilities for the duration of the internship
- Ability to work 40+ hours per week
- Any CAD or Modeling experience

Responsibilities
- Exposure to CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Troubleshooting Machining Processes, PLC Programming, Fabrication, Welding, Solid Modeling, Gage Design, Gage Validation, Capability Studies, Practical Application of GD&T Principles, Kaizen Teams, Project Management, Surface Preparation Methods, Fixture Design, Product Assembly, Lean Manufacturing, Production Gemba Walks, Laser Engraving, Firearm Function Testing, New Model or Derivative Development, PPAP Process for Purchased Components.
- Work directly with a mentor on a manufacturing line.
- Design and build projects to be implemented into the production line.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Shadow mentor in supporting production.
- Attend design reviews and new product development meetings.
- Interact with outside suppliers.
- Plan product flow and improvements to manufacturing.
- Work directly with production associates to learn manufacturing methods.
- Practice communication skills by creating and delivering a presentation.
