About The Position

An internship or Co-Op with HDL Research Lab will provide you with development opportunities in an agile, hands-on environment. Extend your classroom knowledge as you gain practical electro-mechanical hardware experience, working closely with power engineering experts on real-world challenges. Opportunities exist supporting a variety of efforts within Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Quality Engineering. Because HDL is a hands-on environment, internships and Co-Ops are onsite only (remote internships are not available). Students must be able to reliably commute to our facility in Brenham, Texas. Hiring for Spring and Summer 2027. Part-Time Internship: 20+ hours per week. Full-Time Internship: 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.
  • Student must be actively pursuing an advanced degree in applicable STEM discipline, having completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies.
  • Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0.
  • Ability to research and apply engineering principles and theories to solve problems.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • A creative mind with a desire to suggest improvements and new ideas.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior relevant internship experience is preferred.
  • Experience with EAGLE, MATLAB, Python, Autodesk Inventor is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic engineering design, development analysis, experimentation, test, and product assurance tasks of limited complexity for assigned portions of a project.
  • Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and test results to ensure designs and hardware comply with all applicable standards and requirements.
  • Support the fabrication and/or testing of prototype hardware.
  • Support assemblers, technicians, and inspectors for manufacturing issues.
  • Develop or improve test fixtures, tooling, manufacturing processes, and other procedures for new and existing product builds to reduce defects and improve yields.
  • Ensure tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
