Engineering Intern - Forge Automated Code Assessment (Summer 2027)

Millennial Software Solutions Inc•Chantilly, VA
•$27 - $28•Onsite

About The Position

Millennial Software is seeking two Engineering Interns for a 12-week Summer 2027 program, from May 17 through August 6, at its Chantilly, Virginia headquarters. Interns will work on Forge, a DevSecOps and capability platform, to build an automated codebase assessment stage. The stage will assess repository contents, structure, deployment readiness, and produce a written narrative for program managers. The initial run will cover Millennial Software repositories and provide leadership with a consolidated portfolio view during Expedition integration. The work includes developing inventory, structure, and deployment analyzers; implementing a weighted scoring model and portfolio roll-up; and building an LLM narrative layer that generates readable reports and ranked remediation lists. Findings must trace to specific files or dependencies, and narrative quality will be evaluated against a mentor-authored rubric in Keystone. Interns will also run an external open-source repository through the system and present the completed portfolio report at a leadership readout. Interns will be paired with primary and backup mentors, participate in daily standups, bi-weekly sprint planning and demos, and scheduled checkpoints and reviews. The program is full-time and on site in Chantilly, with remote flexibility mentioned.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Be a rising senior, or an exceptional rising junior, pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, and meet the GPA requirement.
  • Have strong Python, Go, or Rust skills and be comfortable with Git, Linux, and reading unfamiliar codebases.
  • Have coursework or project experience in software engineering practices such as testing, CI/CD, containers, or static analysis.
  • Be available full time, on site in Chantilly, Virginia, for the 12-week program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with static analysis or code-quality tools such as SonarQube, Semgrep, CodeQL, or linters, or with dependency/license scanners.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs, prompt design, or output evaluation.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, or similar DevSecOps tooling.
  • Interest in software modernization and defense software delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Build an inventory analyzer covering languages, frameworks, dependency age, and license posture across Millennial Software repositories.
  • Build a structure analyzer covering complexity, coupling, test coverage, and dead code.
  • Build a deployment analyzer covering container readiness, configuration externalization, secrets hygiene, and CI presence.
  • Implement a weighted scoring model and portfolio roll-up, emitting a JSON record per run so scores can be tracked over time.
  • Build an LLM narrative layer that produces readable reports and ranked remediation lists.
  • Evaluate narrative quality against the rubric in Keystone.
  • Run an external open-source repository end to end to demonstrate that the assessment stage generalizes.
  • Deliver the full portfolio report and present it at a leadership readout.
