About The Position

Toole Design is seeking an Engineering Intern in Portland, Maine, for a paid internship focused on mobility networks, public spaces, public-realm projects, and active transportation. During the 8–12-week internship, interns work alongside planners, engineers, and landscape architects on project teams and contribute to projects from day one. The role provides exposure to all phases of design, from stakeholder outreach and workshops through construction documents and administration, as well as project meetings and site visits. Interns develop skills in analysis, 2D and 3D modeling, and illustrative graphics, and receive company-wide training and career mentorship. Interns generally work 40 hours per week, four days in the office, with the option to work from home on Fridays. The position is based in Portland, ME, and offers a targeted pay range of $21.00 to $25.50 per hour.

Requirements

Undergraduate candidates must be in their third year or higher of a Civil Engineering or related bachelor’s program; graduate candidates must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related graduate program; recent graduates must hold a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Ability to quickly learn new concepts, skills, and programs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
MicroStation or AutoCAD experience, or willingness to learn.
Passion for active transportation.

Responsibilities

Contribute to public-realm and active-transportation projects as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
Participate in design phases including stakeholder outreach, workshops, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration.
Attend project meetings and site visits.
Perform analysis and develop 2D/3D models and illustrative graphics.
Work with clients, communities, and colleagues on streets, parks, and trail systems.
