About The Position

This is a one-year, full-time temporary position for an Engineering Instructor at Clovis Community College. The role involves teaching engineering courses and contributing to the instructional program. The college is seeking candidates who are committed to equity and supporting a diverse student population.

Requirements

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
  • Master’s in any field of engineering; or Bachelor’s in any of the above; and Master’s in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry or geology; or A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
  • A bachelor’s in any field of engineering with a professional engineer’s license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Teaching experience in the breadth of courses taught and the use of a variety of pedagogies at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Knowledge of the current curriculum and assessment standards in engineering education.
  • Ability to develop curriculum in emerging areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to use current educational technology methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, adapt and implement innovative teaching methodologies and instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and teaching modalities including distance learning.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and assisting students to succeed.
  • Ability to contribute to the entire the instructional program including Department, Division, and College responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
