About The Position

Join Medtronic as an Engineering Director within the Global Technology & Innovation (GTI) organization. This role is responsible for leading a team focused on operating mechanisms, process development, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will develop a proactive and responsive team to roadmap and execute process maintenance, operational excellence initiatives, team effectiveness, process coaching, and training/onboarding strategies. Medtronic is committed to bringing bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first. This position is remote and requires 30% travel. The Director will oversee the GTI platform selection process, including business procedures and the incorporation of Design | Reliability | Manufacturability (DRM) strategy. Their team will manage multiple technology platforms to enable insightful data, analytics, information sharing, and best practices, while also directing and reporting on additional design improvement initiatives aligned with GTI leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant medical device experience or technology engineering experience with 7+ years of managerial experience; OR an Advanced Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of relevant medical device experience or technology engineering experience with 7+ years of managerial experience.
  • Must maintain a current and valid Passport, with the ability to travel internationally up to 30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering experience in medical device product development.
  • Engineering degree in Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or SW engineering, or MBA.
  • Proven program management experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Research and Development organization as a change agent, orchestrating and implementing process improvements, resulting in sustained change.
  • Ability to work with others collaboratively and accomplish goals working within a team.
  • Experience as a creative problem solver and ability to train, lead, mentor, coach and inspire individuals and teams to significantly impact the business.
  • Familiarity with FDA and ISO standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interface at all levels in the organization.

  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and confidence in applying engineering experience to make pragmatic choices about system design, architecture, and implementation.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an organization of 5+ team members to achieve objectives, developing their capabilities and industry/organizational awareness to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Define the Platform development lifecycle within OU R&D by applying industry best practices, processes, and metrics.
  • Influence cross-functional partners (e.g. OU R&D leaders, functional leaders) on their R&D priorities and strategies to improve overall R&D quality, predictability, and efficiency.
  • Develop relationships and coordinate strategies with the operating units and other key drivers and stakeholders related to Product Development Continuous Improvement.
  • Partner with OU PMO leadership on change management and deployment across a wide scope of functions and programs.
  • Oversee and manage the operational aspects of the GTI Engineering and Technology initiatives, including resource and portfolio planning tools and Product Development leading and lagging metrics.
  • Accountable for training and maintenance related to AOP & Financial Forecasting tools, timelines, and support.
  • Provide system administration and technical support, via team, for applications essential to GTI operation and communication, utilizing platforms such as ResourceFirst, SharePoint, Power BI, and Medtronic-GPT.
  • Ensure appropriate technological advancements and improvements to meet efficiency and effectiveness goals.
  • Accountable for the maintenance, improvement, and scalable application of GTI and OU business processes, incorporating the voice of stakeholders from OU leadership.
  • Solicit feedback on the performance of platform teams, including quality and business areas, to identify themes addressed via training and education, revising strategy and content to address current and future needs.
  • Develop tools and processes to develop and promote technical talent engagement in enterprise initiatives.
