About The Position

Provide engineered solutions that meet the customer’s (internal or external) technical, schedule and budget objectives. This person does this by serving as the lead engineering group organizer and is responsible for coordinating, directing, and exercising functional authority for completion of engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar) from an accredited four-year college or university program.
  • Ten or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, derivatives, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as calculating heat transfer, predicting heat pipe performance, predicting single- and two-phase device performance, determination of test results, reliability and validity, analysis of variances, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Maintain a neatly organized and maintained cubical area/office, free from material stacked on the floor or in corners, and not used as a project material inventory location. Desktops and tabletops should be neat and orderly.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily.

  • A Professional Engineer's license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead engineering group organizer, responsible for coordinating, directing, and exercising functional authority for the completion of engineering projects.
  • Manage assigned engineering personnel to ensure projects are completed profitably by developing project plans, specifying goals, addressing staffing, establishing schedules, identifying risks and their mitigation, developing contingency plans, and allocating resources.
  • Consult with management and review project status to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure that delivery dates to customers are met, including hardware, reports, technical data, and proposals. Notify senior management immediately if delivery dates are in jeopardy.
  • Ensure prototype/pre-production units fabricated in their engineering group meet customer and quality specifications/expectations, coordinating with quality personnel.
  • Ensure customers are notified of any technical or delivery changes/problems immediately upon discovery, coordinating communication with Sales and Customer Service personnel.
  • Ensure each project meets the targeted cost budget.
  • Support sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, generating solutions to customer requirements, writing and presenting technical papers, articles, datasheets, customer visits, and preparing cost/bid support information.
  • Actively monitor and maintain control of company-related intellectual property, trade secrets, and patents. Ensure all new inventions are documented and submitted to the patent committee.
  • Hire, train, and mentor other engineers and technicians; plan, assign, and direct work; track and administer annual PTO schedules; assess performance; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Assist Senior Management in understanding and dealing with technical and/or business situations to improve financial performance and leadership development.
