About The Position

The Engineering Director, Autonomous Cloud will lead technical strategy and execution for Google Cloud’s Autonomous Cloud initiatives. The role partners with the Product Lead and Uber Tech Lead to accelerate autonomous and agentic development, AI engineering, and Agent Harness innovations. The position oversees integration of Agent Platforms and the expansion of autonomous agent lifecycles and experiences, while driving an eval-first engineering environment and productionizing research with Cloud AI and Google DeepMind.

Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of software engineering experience building and working with large-scale systems in a technology organization.
5 years of experience leading frontier-level AI, AI-Engineering, Agentic Engineering, applied AI solutions, and ML-related technologies to solve real-world AI/ML problems in consumer or enterprise applications.
5 years of experience as a Software Engineering leader in ML Infrastructure, ML or AI for products, or related fields.
Experience with technical innovation within cross-functional engineering environments.
Experience leading engineering teams through organizational and technical transformations.

Experience managing complex cross-functional dependencies with research groups and cloud platform teams.
Experience successfully producing software products and large-scale distributed systems.
Experience with configuration management tools and automation efforts, technical troubleshooting, and performance tuning with Enterprise or Data Center Network architecture.
Expertise in building and scaling autonomous agent frameworks or cloud automation infrastructure at planet scale.
Expertise building Gen AI, ML products, agent frameworks, agent protocols (e.g., MCP, A2A), RAG, Prompt Engineering, and evals.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Product Manager Lead and Uber Tech Lead to define Autonomous Cloud technical strategy and accelerate Autonomous Agentic development, AI-Engineering, and Agent Harness innovations.
Oversee integration of Agent Platforms and manage the expansion of Autonomous agent lifecycles and experiences.
Establish the eval harness as the authoritative quality gate and drive the transition to an eval-first environment by hill climbing and challenging evals to Gemini models.
Work with and influence stakeholders across the organization to build joint roadmaps and drive adoption of Autonomous Cloud.
Partner closely with Cloud AI and Google DeepMind to productionize research and scale Autonomous and Agentic Development across first-party AutoCloud producers with unified agentic and eval frameworks and tooling.
Manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, contribute to project goals and product strategy, and oversee deployment of large-scale projects across multiple international sites.
