About The Position

The Engineering Assistant is an entry-level position that provides technical and administrative support to the engineering and design team. This position is responsible for assisting with residential HVAC design, Manual J heat load calculations, permit documentation, and related engineering tasks. The Engineering Assistant will receive training and develop proficiency in industry-specific software, design processes, and HVAC load calculations. The position offers an opportunity for long-term growth and advancement within the engineering and design function.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work with technical information, measurements, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal teams.
  • Ability and willingness to learn residential HVAC design principles, Manual J calculations, software, and company-specific processes while following established procedures and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Construction, residential HVAC, or building science experience is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with R-Value, insulation, or other residential construction concepts is also a plus.
  • Experience with RightSoft or similar HVAC design software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Manual J residential heat load calculations and related HVAC design calculations. Training will be provided, with proficiency typically developing over approximately 6–12 months.
  • Create and update residential house drawings using applicable design and engineering software, including entering required building, construction, and equipment parameters.
  • Assist with preparing information used by the engineering/design team to determine appropriate equipment sizing and develop duct system designs.
  • Assist with preparing and organizing permit documentation and other supporting materials for residential projects.
  • Review residential plans, project information, calculations, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Gather, organize, and maintain accurate project information, files, calculations, and related documentation.
  • Learn and use Rightsoft and other applicable software to support residential HVAC calculations and design activities.
  • Communicate with internal team members regarding project information, design requirements, documentation, and project needs.
  • Participate in training and continuously develop knowledge of residential HVAC design principles, construction practices, software, and applicable standards.
  • Perform other engineering, design, and administrative duties as assigned.
