About The Position

Primary purpose To maintain and manage a companywide overpressure protection (OPP) records database. Review of all OPP to ensure compliance with DOT, ASME, API regulations and company engineering and OM standards. Attendance at PSMSA inspections as required. Be a technical resource in the selection and sizing of OPP)/PSVs for natural gas, CO2, crude oil, etc. for operations and maintenance, and capital projects. Be directly responsible for the maintenance of company engineering standards and OM procedures dealing with the utilization of OPP as well as other company standards and procedures dealing with the design, operation and maintenance of company assets as required. This position may be filled as an Engineer II or Engineer III at Management’s discretion (based on experience noted in the Education requirements).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2-6 years experience in engineering.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.
  • Knowledge on the sizing and application of OPP/PSVs in the natural gas, oil, or CO2 transmission industry.
  • Knowledge of the natural gas, oil, or CO2 transmission industry, pipeline/facilities design, construction, operation and testing.
  • Knowledge of ROW, EHS and regulatory clearances for energy projects.
  • Manager’s discretion will determine the starting engineering level (II or III) based on direct work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and Outlook.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of engineering concepts.
  • Proficiency in basic project management skills.
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Familiarity with pipeline and facility design calculations and equations.
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret basic GIS information and maps and aboveground facilities civil, mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to successfully perform work on simultaneous projects and tasks to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-8 years of relevant industry experience is preferred, with proven success in cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Specific experience in project management, engineering, design and construction of pipeline, compressor, and meter station facilities.
  • Knowledge of natural gas, CO 2 and crude oil pipeline and facility operation.
  • Knowledge and experience with pipeline and facility pressure testing.
  • Knowledge and experience with stress engineering calculations.
  • Knowledge and experience with OPP/PSV application, sizing, selection and review.
  • Knowledge and experience with welding procedures application, welder and procedure qualification.
  • Familiarity with weld inspection, visual and NDE such as RT, MT, UT, and PT.
  • Experience and knowledge of defect assessment and repair.
  • Experience in investigation and root-cause determination of pipeline and equipment failures.
  • Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and/or application experience with industry standards (DOT 49 CFR 192/ASME B31.8 and DOT 49 CFR 195/ASME B31.4, API 520, API 526, B31.3, ASME Section VIII, Section IX, Section XIII, ASME B16 standards relating to manufacturing specifications related to material/equipment used in the natural gas and liquid transmission industry, ANSI, NACE, NEC, MSS-SP-44, SP-75, SP-97, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manage a company-wide OPP database.
  • Review of OPP as required to ensure compliance with DOT code as per company engineering and OM standards.
  • Develop cost estimates and budget forecasts for maintenance projects as required.
  • Develop Request for Proposal (RFP) bid documents for construction projects and materials, etc., conduct bid process, prepare detailed bid analysis, select successful contractor.
  • Effectively plan, schedule, manage and report on multiple capital and maintenance projects with various deadlines and responsibility levels.
  • Ensure that projects comply with company safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of OPP/PSV and other projects, managing budgets and timelines effectively.
  • Manage internal and external resources.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collect, review, organize and publish project and compliance related documentation into project job books that will be audited by regulatory agencies and retained for the life of the asset.
  • Provide engineering expertise and support to Operations, ensuring successful project completion.
  • Serve as a field engineer to manage maintenance and troubleshooting of OPP/PSV at Tallgrass facilities.
  • Complete technical research and provide technical guidance on OPP/PSVs.
  • Provide technical guidance on the application of industry codes and standards as well as federal regulations governing natural gas and other gas and hazardous liquid by pipeline to Tallgrass engineering standards and OM procedures.
  • Create, review, and revise company engineering, operations and maintenance, and construction standards.
  • Participate in industry research groups as required.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Regular, dependable work attendance and a fully competent level of performance is expected.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this role is $80,700-$181,300/yr
