Engineer Senior/Spec/Principle - Structural

General Dynamics Electric Boat•Groton, CT

About The Position

The Structural Engineering Process & Cutover Team owns, improves, and sustains end-to-end processes supporting design and engineering execution within the Structures organization. The team develops and maintains processes that enable predictable, high-quality engineering output while reducing inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and inconsistencies across programs. This includes detailed process analysis, mapping complex workflows, identifying pain points, and establishing standards that support clear, efficient execution and strong configuration control. The role works cross-functionally to optimize how work progresses from initial concept through disclosure issue and hand-off to supporting organizations. Team members engage with design and engineering teams, review work products, and support daily execution to inform continuous process development. End-to-end alignment includes integration with Materials, Planning, WPDDS, ECM, and other supporting organizations so engineering outputs support downstream production needs. The team also supports Electric Boat’s VA Cutover mission, transitioning CATIA-based VA design data into the Siemens toolset (Teamcenter/NX) for VA Class digital transformation and future design efforts. The role helps integrate Cutover workflows with established engineering and design processes, maintain data accuracy and configuration integrity across a dual-database environment, develop end-to-end processes that support quality data transfer and organizational alignment, and interface with internal and external customers to develop scalable automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil Engineering (structures) or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and interact with other groups and end-to-end organizations.
  • Good understanding of Electric Boat’s end-to-end process.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (structures) or Mechanical Engineering.
