About The Position

This role is for an Engineer I/II in a Process Plant. The Engineer I provides support to ensure a safe and healthful environment, develops expertise in manufacturing equipment and processes, assists with developing mechanical knowledge, provides technical expertise in mechanical design, offers daily manufacturing support, assists with machine centerlines and run settings, participates in and leads projects, utilizes project management tools, provides technical support for new product commercialization, coordinates equipment fabrication and installation, participates in continuous improvement activities, supports purchasing with equipment specifications, and analyzes production data to identify opportunities for improvement. The Engineer II provides leadership and technical direction for process designs, ensures efficient product and process utilization through statistical analysis, supports commercialization trials, identifies and implements process improvements for efficiency and cost savings, identifies root causes of manufacturing issues, reverse engineers machine components, and provides technical expertise in mechanical design. Both roles emphasize safety and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent with 2 years Process/Mechanical Engineering experience; alternatively non-degreed participants that can demonstrate required skills and aptitude with six (6) years of experience are acceptable (Engineer I).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D for part and plant drawings.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate utilizing written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Must be well organized with the ability to support and participate in multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to develop training materials and effectively train adult learners.
  • Capacity to enhance education and technical skills.
  • Experience with SPC (Statistical Process Control), Process Capability, and data-driven problem-solving.
  • Experience with team-based problem solving and process resolution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering) or a relevant scientific based degree plus 3 years of direct process support engineering experience required or equivalent combination of related education and experience (Engineer II).
  • Demonstrated process engineering improvement/knowledge to drive efficiency and cost savings (Engineer II).
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of statistical based data to identify and definitively prove benefit for current and future state (Engineer II).
  • Experience in implementing lean practices (Engineer II).
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting multiple objectives, team building skills and excellent communication skills required (Engineer II).

Nice To Haves

  • 3D/Inventor experience a plus (Engineer I).
  • Supervisory experience desired (Engineer II).
  • Six sigma certification preferred (Engineer II).
  • Experience with automated packaging equipment and sanitary processing (food, liquids, cosmetic or medical) and experience in machine installs, checkouts and acceptance testing preferred (Engineer II).

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to ensure a safe and healthful environment for all employees and compliance with government regulations and corporate policies.
  • Develops expertise with respect to manufacturing equipment and processes to support initiatives that meet customer and business requirements.
  • Assists with the development of mechanical knowledge and skills for technical resources and others.
  • Provides technical expertise regarding mechanical design of components, equipment, and processes using engineering principles.
  • Provides daily manufacturing support by assisting operating teams and technical resources to analyze and resolve process issues related to equipment, product quality, and productivity.
  • Assists with the development of machine centerlines and good run settings.
  • Participates in and/or provides coordination and leadership for projects, including continuous improvement initiatives, equipment modifications, and installation projects.
  • Utilizes tools such as Scope Documents and visual management tools to ensure objectives are met and stakeholders are informed.
  • Provides technical support for the commercialization of new products, processes, or systems.
  • Coordinates the fabrication, operation, installation, and/or repair of equipment and processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost initiatives.
  • Provides support to purchasing by providing equipment specifications and/or requirements, resolving equipment or parts issues, and realizing cost savings opportunities with equipment vendors or parts suppliers.
  • Analyzes production, waste, and delay information to identify opportunities to maximize output, reduce waste, and improve overall asset efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates commitment to company values.
  • Contributes to a cooperative working effort by performing other job-related work as needed or requested.
  • Provides leadership and technical direction to ensure process designs conform to sanitary standards and have the capability to produce products that meet both customer and business requirements (Engineer II).
  • Ensures the use of proven methodologies (statistical based analysis) to ensure that products and processes are created and utilized in the most efficient manner (Engineer II).
  • Supports commercialization trials (Engineer II).
  • Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities for process efficiency, continuous improvement, associate development, and cost savings; completes said projects while reducing costs by streamlining processes and implementation of efficient systems (Engineer II).
  • Identifies root cause to manufacturing issues (Engineer II).
  • Reverse engineers machine components to improve functionality and reliability (Engineer II).
