About The Position

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution. This position involves joining a multi-disciplinary team to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements for assigned projects within Paint work centers. The role includes developing, implementing, and commissioning materials and process (M&P) plans for tactical hardware, assisting with efforts to qualify new materials and processes in paint lab, printed circuit lab, tetra etch, and metal finishing. The individual will be mentored by experienced Materials and Process (M&P) Subject Matter Experts (SME). Responsibilities include reviewing engineering drawings, providing feedback on materials selection, producibility, and process specifications, and participating in teams to develop and investigate new paint tools, equipment, and manufacturing techniques. This may involve applying advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts. The role also entails troubleshooting hardware anomaly root causes and corrective actions, establishing and refining the paint and coatings engineering strategy, and collaborating with Manufacturing and Materials Engineers to develop new strategies and processes. Designing, researching, and developing new applications for business opportunities may also be part of the role. The position requires coordinating and conducting tests for coating validation, providing documentation, and implementing corrective actions. Research projects may be designed, developed, and executed. Maintaining compliance with safety, AS9100, and audit requirements is essential. Collaboration with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering to develop best practices for paint and etch tooling, performing failure analysis on paint-related hardware anomalies, and developing Standard Operating Procedures are also key duties. Applying manufacturing engineering techniques and maintaining good customer relations are expected. The role involves uncovering and resolving issues associated with operational programs in Paint, participating in and leading process validations, and engaging in group discussions and meetings. Maintaining a regular work schedule and effective working relationships within the department and company is required. Performing other duties as necessary is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Suite and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Join a multi-disciplinary team to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements for assigned projects within Paint work centers.
  • Develop, implement, and commission materials and process (M&P) plans for tactical hardware, including assisting with efforts to qualify new materials and processes in paint lab, printed circuit lab, tetra etch, and metal finishing.
  • Be personally mentored and trained one-on-one, by two Materials and Process (M&P) Subject Matter Experts (SME) with combined 39 years of industry experience.
  • Review engineering drawings and provide feedback to designers on materials selection, producibility, and process specifications.
  • Participate in teams to develop and investigate new paint tools, equipment and manufacturing techniques to lead the operations into the future.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate hardware anomaly root causes and corrective actions.
  • Participate in teams to establish, refine and execute the paint and coatings engineering strategy.
  • Work cross functionally with Manufacturing, Materials Engineers, and Paint technicians to develop new strategies and processes to meet design requirements for Program execution.
  • Design, research and develop highly advanced new applications resulting in new product/business opportunities for the company.
  • Coordinate and conduct all tests required for validating coatings and their performance and provide clear concise documentation and direction on corrective actions.
  • Design, development, and execution of innovative research projects.
  • Maintain compliance with all requirements, including, but not limited to: Safety, AS9100 and internal and external audits.
  • Work cross functionally with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering to develop best practices for paint and etch tooling.
  • Perform failure analysis on paint related hardware anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions and other documents for each work center to ensure best operational practices.
  • Apply industry accepted manufacturing engineering techniques, practices and procedures to our environment.
  • Maintain excellent rapport with internal/external customers.
  • Act, with supervision, to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs in Paint.
  • Participate in and lead process validations.
  • Participate in group discussions and effective meetings.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
  • Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
