About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This position involves Real Time and Contingency Load Flow transfer studies to maintain service to customers and system integrity. Requires after-hours response for system emergencies during duty (1 week out of 5.) Also involves troubleshooting system anomalies and supporting investigations into system abnormalities. Works hand in hand with system dispatch. Supports/reviews/recommends system improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Entry-level knowledge and experience in the application of theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers.
  • Fundamental understanding of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to relate to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.
  • Knows which decisions they are authorized to make.
  • Desire to listen to and satisfy both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly.
  • Ability to listen to and understand instructions, and request clarification as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
  • Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with a Non-ABET accredited program.
  • Active participation in professional and business organizations is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level engineering work activities and projects.
  • Conduct Real Time and Contingency Load Flow transfer studies.
  • Respond to system emergencies after hours during duty rotation.
  • Troubleshoot system anomalies and support investigations into system abnormalities.
  • Work closely with system dispatch.
  • Support, review, and recommend system improvement projects.
  • Assist higher-level engineers in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems and analyses.
  • Coordinate work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks.
  • Prepare cost estimates using established standards.
  • Monitor project status and recommend action accordingly.
  • Assist and participate in the preparation of reports and technical papers.
  • Network with peers to share information and encourage cooperation.
  • Contribute to team decision-making.
  • Apply economic analysis techniques in problem solving.
  • Pursue effective ways to protect and enhance the environment while providing reliable electricity at a competitive cost.
