About The Position

The Engine Shop Trainee is responsible for learning and working under the direct mentorship of an assigned Senior Service Technician. This role involves assisting a Senior Technician in completing assigned jobs and tasks, working safely, and following all WCAT safety policies and procedures. The trainee will also assist with paperwork, access databases, follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules, and perform tasks such as removing and installing parts, disassembling and assembling components, and testing assemblies under supervision. Additionally, the trainee will assist in providing accurate quotes and estimates to customers and will ride along with a Senior Service Technician to learn all aspects of the tasks at hand daily.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, laptops, diagnostic software and cranes and rigging equipment.
  • Willingness to accept instruction and guidance from a Senior Service Technician.
  • Pass administered Can Test and Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Prior to acceptance for this position.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team-oriented mentality.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training.
  • Successfully complete Work steps assessment.
  • Ability to certify for operating a forklift and/or manlift.
  • May be required to complete DOT physical.
  • May require MSHA certification.

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of diesel or gas engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic systems and components.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a Senior Technician in completing assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.
  • Work safely and follow all WCAT safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist a Senior Technician in completing related paperwork and access databases required to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with supervision from a Senior Shop Technician.
  • Assist a Senior Service Technician in providing accurate quotes and pricing estimates to the customer.
  • Ride train alongside a Senior Service Technician with all aspects of the task at hand daily.
