About The Position

HPU Libraries supports student learning and campus engagement through events, programs, collections, services, and digital content. As a student employee, you will gain experience working in an academic library while developing skills in marketing, communication, content creation, event support, and audience engagement. The Engagement Student Assistant supports the promotion of HPU Libraries and its programs, resources, and services. Responsibilities may include creating social media content, taking photos and videos, assisting with promotional materials, and supporting library events. The specific focus of the position may be tailored to the student’s skills and interests. A student with experience in marketing or social media may focus more heavily on digital content, while a student with a graphic design, photography, or video background may take on more creative production responsibilities.

Requirements

• Applicants must be able to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with library staff, students, and visitors.
• Applicants should be comfortable interacting with students and representing HPU Libraries in a friendly and professional manner.
• Applicants must also be willing to learn new creative tools, platforms, and library procedures.
• Must have a minimum 2.0 overall GPA.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Customer-service oriented and comfortable engaging with others.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Creative, dependable, and attentive to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Experience or interest in social media, marketing, photography, video production, or graphic design.
• Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, photography equipment, or video-editing software is preferred but not required.
• Ability to contribute original ideas while also following project direction and brand guidelines.
• Communication, marketing, graphic design, and related majors are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants may submit a portfolio or examples of creative work, but one is not required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with creating engaging social media content that promotes HPU Libraries, its collections, services, programs, and events.
• Takes photos and videos at library events and throughout library spaces.
• Brainstorms content ideas, promotional concepts, and creative ways to connect students with library resources and services.
• Creates or edits graphics, photos, videos, or other promotional materials based on experience and skill level.
• Assists with event setup, staffing tables or activity stations, welcoming attendees, and cleanup.
• Works directly with the Digital Engagement Specialist to complete assigned projects and prepare content for review.
• Completes other duties assigned by the Digital Engagement Specialist.
