About The Position

Honeywell Sustainable Building Technologies (SBT) is seeking a Senior Energy Solutions Development Engineer to support project development throughout North America. This role is primarily focused on central plant design and optimization projects within the Public, Federal, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) markets. The engineer will provide engineering support to the sales team, influence customers towards Honeywell solutions using subject matter expertise, and offer both external and internal consultations. Responsibilities include helping Honeywell teams develop and maintain product messaging, customer support, and training, fostering cross-functional alignment to customer needs, and participating in pursuit strategy planning and customer negotiations. The company is a leader in the energy industry, with a significant portion of its portfolio dedicated to energy efficiency, having completed over 5,000 efficiency projects globally that are projected to save over $5 billion in utility and operational costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 10 years or more experience with central heating/cooling plants and CHP systems
  • Hands on experience with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hydronic/steam systems, etc.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Knowledgeable of ASME, NFPA, UFC, and international mechanical codes
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to U.S. federal contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Project Development experience: $1M – $20M+ project size
  • Professional certifications: CEM, LEED-AP
  • Preferably experience with steam and/or gas turbine generation and thermal energy storage
  • Experience with traditional building HVAC and control systems
  • Ability to develop and foster strong customer relationships
  • Strong verbal/written communications skills (technical writing, proposal preparation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and future mandates
  • Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction project grants and incentive programs
  • Ability to achieve results through influence in a matrixed-team environment

Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Generate conceptual schematic design of concepts for preliminary cost estimating
  • Familiarity with energy metering, performance trending, and data analysis
  • Calculate annual energy consumption of central heating/cooling plants and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants
  • Develop detailed saving calculations for proposed solutions
  • Generate 30-year life cycle cost analysis of new plants or modified plants including: financing, site growth rate, utility rate escalations, carbon offsets, equipment uptime, degradation, renewable energy credits, O&M costs, and incentives
  • Create comprehensive scope of work documents for use internally and externally
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for performance issues related to systems within central heating/cooling plants and CHP systems
  • Experience with air permitting and other environmental regulatory requirements
  • Engage in customer-facing activities and present technical briefings
  • Analyze growth opportunities
  • Review proposal activities
  • Develop and champion best-in-class sales training
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to younger or less experienced engineers
