The Encounter Specialist Medical Assistant will participate in daily Care Team Huddles to ensure collaborative care for each patient. This role involves reviewing patient medical records for upcoming visits, abstracting pertinent data, and making notes for issues to be addressed during the visit. The specialist will greet and escort patients, obtain vital signs, assess medication regimens, and reconcile allergies. They will engage patients in conversation about their health, assess social environments, and prepare charts with relevant data for the provider. The Medical Assistant will remain in the exam room to document findings, enter provider orders, and provide patient instructions and educational materials. They will also inform patients about the timing of their next visit and direct them to check out for scheduling. Additional responsibilities include documenting all activities in the electronic medical record, fulfilling other patient care responsibilities such as assisting patients and answering calls, and completing clerical tasks like sending/receiving records, facilitating referrals, completing forms, scheduling appointments, and insurance verification/pre-certification. The role also involves enhancing professional growth through in-service meetings and educational programs, adhering to controlled substance regulations, practicing universal precautions, and completing training related to hierarchical condition category (HCC) coding.
