About The Position

Milliken & Company is hiring student co-ops for the 2027 calendar year at its encapsulation plant in Portage, Wisconsin. The co-op is offered to students pursuing Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and runs from January through August 2027. Co-ops work on collaborative and independent projects alongside engineer and scientist project leaders, with an assigned mentor to guide training, development, and project contributions. Projects offer substantial responsibility and can have a direct impact on business results. In a project engineering role, the co-op will participate in the daily operations of an encapsulation plant, develop engineering designs to address practical problems, and help plan and implement projects. The position involves working 40–50 hours per week, with occasional late days or weekends as project work requires. The role is based at the Portage, Wisconsin plant.

Requirements

Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum GPA of 3.00.
Self-motivated and driven to complete projects.
Able to work independently.
Able to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements.
Able to operate in a flexible and dynamic manufacturing environment.
Able to interact effectively with customers, management, and production personnel.
Able to work safely around manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

Participate in the day-to-day operations of an encapsulation plant as a project engineer.
Develop engineering designs to solve real-world problems.
Develop project technical requirements, schedules, and estimates.
Lead reviews with cross-functional teams to address concerns related to project implementation.
Support other engineers with project activities.
Produce written summary reports and presentations.
