About The Position

Milliken & Company is hiring student co-ops for 2027 at its encapsulation plant in Portage, Wisconsin. The position is offered to students in chemical or mechanical engineering and runs from May through December 2027. Co-ops work on collaborative and independent projects with engineer and scientist project leaders, and each is assigned a mentor for training, development, and guidance. Projects carry substantial responsibility and can have a direct impact on the business. The position is competitively paid and includes a special benefits package with a housing allowance stipend and paid company holidays. Encapsys, a Milliken subsidiary in the specialty chemicals industry, is a leader in encapsulation technologies, with business segments in fragrance, phase change, and growth. Co-ops participate in the day-to-day operations of the plant and complete project engineering work in a flexible, dynamic manufacturing environment.

Requirements

Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum GPA of 3.00.
Self-motivated and driven to complete projects.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements.
Ability to work in a flexible and dynamic manufacturing environment.
Ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and production personnel.
Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

Participate in the day-to-day operations of the encapsulation plant as a project engineer.
Develop engineering designs to solve real-world problems.
Develop project technical requirements, schedules, and estimates.
Lead reviews with cross-functional teams to address concerns related to project implementation.
Support other engineers in project activities.
Produce written summary reports and presentations.
Work 40–50 hours per week, with occasional late days or weekends as project work requires.
