About The Position

AMR is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine. The eligible candidate will be hired as a full-time employee and compensated with a training wage while in attendance at the EMT Academy, sponsored by AMR. The academy is a rigorous six-week program which qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of EMT exam. Upon successful completion of the National Registry EMT exam, the employee will apply for a Arizona State EMCT-EMT Basic Certification. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees, and uniforms will be paid by AMR. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position. This program will begin 9/2/2026 -10/12/2026. Training is about 6 weeks. No class on 9/7/2026 in recognition of Labor Day. Students will attend orientation at AMR Tucson operations first on 8/31 and 9/1, before starting classes at PSESI on 9/2 (4355 E. Calle Aurora Tucson, AZ 85709). Orientation and class start dates to follow. EMT Academy is an instructor-led, hands-on training program that is held five (5) days a week, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a HS diploma or GED
  • Have a valid Driver License with NO Restrictions
  • Successfully complete thorough pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test (PLEASE NOTE: Drug screening includes THC/Marijuana. Applicants who test positive for THC/Marijuana will be disqualified)
  • Successfully complete a Reading Assessment administered by Pima College and meet entrance standards
  • Sign 18-month service commitment/agreement

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.
  • Perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.
  • Function as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight.
  • Be a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
