About The Position

The EMS Shift Supervisor serves in both a direct patient care and shift management capacity. During assigned shifts, the EMS Shift Supervisor oversees or partners in patient care according to scope of practice, and manages all shift operations including safe and appropriate vehicle operations and safe and appropriate use of all EMS equipment and supplies. The EMS Shift Supervisor also oversees the autonomous BLS operations of designated eligible BLS student EMT crews who respond to patients in the ambulance and is the point of contact for all BEMS professional workflow on appointed shifts. As adjunct faculty for the EMS Prehospital Education Programs, the EMS Shift Supervisor serves as a mentor and educator for students and EMS staff. Responsibilities include supporting EMT onboarding and training, conducting driver education, and facilitating assigned training activities related to EMT licensure, recertification, and continuing medical education requirements. This is a per diem position requiring coverage of a minimum of three shifts per month, including at least one weekend shift.

Requirements

  • Rhode Island licensed prehospital provider with substantial 911 emergency response experience within the State of Rhode Island.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
  • Current FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and AWR-160 certifications.
  • EVOC certification or equivalent emergency vehicle operator training.
  • Minimum 3 years EMS experience or the equivalent on a 911 service, preferably in RI.
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory or leadership experience in relevant field.
  • Proficiency in the delivery of prehospital care with careful adherence to State and National standards and protocols.
  • Proficiency or comfort with Google Suite applications.
  • Teaching skills.
  • Clean driving record and background check.
  • Professionalism, maturity, and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, move quickly, carry equipment and patients, and drive emergency vehicles.
  • Ability to work autonomously while still meeting expectations of carefully outlined SOG.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) level provider preferred.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteer services or commitments preferred.
