At Community Care Ambulance, the EMS Field Supervisor is a key operational leadership role responsible for the direct oversight of daily field operations. This position ensures safe, efficient, and compliant EMS system performance while supporting high-quality patient care across all field units. The Field Supervisor serves as the frontline operational leader, mentor, and liaison between field personnel, communications, and organizational leadership. This role is essential in maintaining system readiness, guiding personnel performance, and ensuring that patient care, safety, and operational efficiency remain the highest priorities throughout every shift. A key component of this position is leadership development. Each EMS Field Supervisor is responsible for mentoring and coaching an assigned Assistant Field Supervisor, actively preparing them for future advancement into Lead Supervisor and higher-level operational leadership roles. This structured development model strengthens succession planning and builds long-term leadership capacity within the organization. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare Administration, Public Safety, Business Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Current Ohio Paramedic certification required.
  • Critical care training or certification such as CICP, FP-C, CCP-C, or other recognized advanced transport/critical care credential preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • ACLS, PALS, ITLS/PHTLS, and other applicable EMS certifications preferred or required based on organizational standards.
  • Must maintain all required certifications, licensure, and continuing education requirements throughout employment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of EMS field experience preferred, including emergency response and patient transport operations.
  • Previous supervisory, leadership, field training officer (FTO), or shift management experience preferred.
  • Experience coordinating or supervising EMS transport operations strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in high-volume EMS systems, interfacility transport, or 911 operations preferred.
  • Communications Center or EMS dispatch experience considered a plus.
  • Experience conducting employee evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and performance improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
  • Thorough understanding of EMS operations, clinical protocols, safety practices, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead, motivate, mentor, and develop field personnel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism during stressful or emergency situations.
  • Proficiency with EMS technology systems, electronic patient care reporting (ePCR), CAD systems, scheduling software, and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Communications, Clinical Services, Fleet, and Administrative personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license required with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must meet Community Care Ambulance insurability requirements.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must demonstrate reliable attendance and dependability.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-in situations as operational needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and oversee all field operations during assigned shifts
  • Ensure staffing levels, unit deployment, and operational activities meet organizational and regulatory standards
  • Monitor system status and coordinate with Communications and Operations to ensure efficient resource allocation
  • Maintain operational readiness, including vehicle status, equipment availability, and personnel preparedness
  • Respond to system demands and provide real-time decision-making and problem-solving support
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Provide direct patient care when operational needs require field support
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Communications, Operations, Clinical Services, Fleet, and Administrative departments
  • Coordinate closely with dispatch to ensure effective system-wide communication and resource management
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and operational consistency across all departments
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and system enhancements
  • Supervise, evaluate, and support field personnel performance during assigned shifts
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership development to staff
  • Actively mentor assigned Assistant Field Supervisors, preparing them for advancement into Lead Supervisor and higher-level operational leadership roles
  • Deliver constructive feedback and corrective action in accordance with policy
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and integration of new employees
  • Participate in training initiatives, continuing education, and staff development activities
  • Assist with interviews and hiring processes as assigned
  • Promote accountability, professionalism, and a strong team culture
  • Conduct field observations and patient care evaluations for quality assurance and compliance
  • Monitor and ensure accountability of vehicles, equipment, and operational resources
  • Investigate incidents including complaints, accidents, injuries, and near misses, ensuring proper documentation
  • Coordinate with support departments regarding supply, equipment, and vehicle needs
  • Reconcile timecards and verify accuracy of shift documentation
  • Complete daily operational reports and required administrative documentation
  • Maintain inventory accountability and medication supply compliance per policy
  • Ensure all records and reports are accurate, complete, and submitted on time
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct at all times
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, and decision-making in high-pressure situations
  • Maintain all required certifications, licensure, and continuing education requirements
  • Promote a safe work environment and support all organizational safety initiatives
  • Uphold a patient-first, service-driven approach to EMS leadership
