About The Position

The International Employment Lawyer specializes in labor and employment laws across multiple countries and jurisdictions. This role primarily involves advising the company on compliance with local employment laws, managing cross-border employment issues, and handling disputes that arise in an international context. Reporting to the General Counsel, this position sits within the Legal, Risk & Compliance function and serves as the primary legal partner to Human Resources on all employment matters globally.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution
  • 7+ years of experience in employment law, including at least 3 years of international exposure
  • Experience working with multinational corporations or global law firms
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a global team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising on employment matters across EMEA, APAC, or Latin American jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with global mobility, immigration law, and cross-border M&A employment issues
  • Experience supporting HR teams in a fast-paced, global organization

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ensure Signant's compliance with local labor laws, including hiring practices, contracts, employee benefits, and termination
  • Develop and implement global employment policies and procedures aligned with international labor standards
  • Assist with labor relations and work councils/union negotiations across different countries
  • Advise on vendor management regarding leased workers, including visa and immigration issues, employment contracts, and tax implications
  • Address issues related to mergers, acquisitions, and business restructurings with a focus on employee rights and obligations
  • Collaborate with international outside counsel on employment disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation
  • Manage cross-border employment litigation, working with local counsel as necessary
  • Handle cases related to wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and other employment-related claims
  • Conduct thorough research on international labor laws and regulations
  • Monitor changes in employment laws across jurisdictions and assess their impact on the company
  • Provide regular updates and training on international employment law trends and developments
  • Manage global mobility issues, employment-related technology, and M&A employment matters
  • Draft and review employment contracts, severance agreements, and other related legal documents for compliance with local and international laws
  • Negotiate terms of employment, including non-compete clauses, confidentiality agreements, and dispute resolution mechanisms
  • Serve as the primary legal point of contact for Human Resources
  • Build and maintain strong internal client relationships, providing strategic advice and proactive solutions
  • Collaborate with internal legal teams and external counsel to manage global employment law matters
