About The Position

Responsible and caring individual needed to mentor and provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities at their job sites, and job development for individuals seeking employment in the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles County area. In the Employment Coach role, you will be support someone with: Job development, including resume building, practice interviews, learning new employability skills Transportation to and from work, and assistance with accessing their community Maintaining employment and productivity Discovering their interests, skills, and employment goals Creating a meaningful daily schedule by working with their circle of support. Above all, we are all about building healthy relationships. One of your main goals will be to develop a friendly professional and respectful relationship with the person(s) you are assigned to, as well as to help them build positive relationships with their co-workers, roommates, and neighbors.

Requirements

  • Two years of college or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • Job development and on-the-job support experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities preferably in community integrated settings (plus any additional experience).
  • Strong organization, communication and writing skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and online platforms as some services are provided remotely.
  • Positive behavior support training experience preferred.
  • Commitment to full inclusion of all persons with disabilities.
  • Commitment to integrated employment for all persons with disabilities.
  • Commitment to self-advocacy and person-centered planning.
  • Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out all directives that come from the Support Manager, their Director of Services, Chief Executive Officer, and Board of Directors.
  • Ensuring all IRI persons served service and support needs are met.
  • Providing mentorship to the people we serve.
  • Ensuring the best services possible, including a priority focus on health, safety, and quality of life services.
  • Providing job development and on-the-job supports, guided by PBIS and Instructional Support Strategies.
  • Assisting the individual and their circle of support in securing a competitive integrated job that is in line with their skills and talents.
  • Gathering information during supports that lead to meaningful and Individualized Support Plans (ISP) for the people we serve.
  • Utilizing digital tools such as Zoom, online learning platforms, and online job searching to meet the needs of each individual’s long-term employment goals.
  • Ensuring that strong and effective business relationships with employers and volunteer sites are maintained.
  • Understanding and practicing IRI’s mission and embracing person-centered values.
  • Demonstrating respectful and dignified interaction and communication with IRI persons served, stakeholders (such as co-workers, employers, family members, community members) and IRI colleagues.
  • Assuming competence and building esteem in all interactions with IRI people served.
  • Implementing a normalized community integrated employment focused service.
  • Developing integrated work schedules.
  • Finding integrated work settings and developing competitive employment placement.
  • Providing encouragement for meaningful employment related activities to the person served.
  • Conducting frequent job site analysis - pre, during and post-employment.
  • Implementing adaptation strategies and devices based upon individual need.
  • Providing typical and specialized healthcare needs (medication, hygiene, toiletry, feeding) as needed.
  • Implementing individual service plan goals and SMART objectives.
  • Monitoring positive behavior strategy system and plans.
  • Conducting task analysis and demonstrating data-based training decisions.
  • Completing all required documents: eRSP daily care notes, clocking in/out, maintaining up to date employee personnel file, etc.
  • Attending and completing staff development training and attend trainings as assigned.
  • Communicating important updates regarding IRI person served to supervisor, circle of support, stakeholders, etc.
  • Dressing professionally and/or appropriately for tasks that are done with person supported (see dress code policy).
  • Demonstrating proper emergency strategies.
  • Contacting and reporting emergencies to the Support Manager, as necessary.
  • Collaborating with individual served and supported, Lead Employment Coach, Support Manager, and circle of support to complete customized employment activities for job development.
  • Contacting prospective employers and facilitating job application for participants.
  • Shadowing and training other coaches with a specific individual you support.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Support Manager, Director of Services, and CEO.
