About The Position

Under general direction, works independently to manage a portfolio of assigned employers. This role involves consulting and assisting employers regarding premium rates, NCCI manual classifications, BWC’s rating, discount & incentive programs, available grants, and the importance of loss control programs. The specialist will contact assigned new and existing employers to market, support, and implement various BWC initiatives. A key responsibility is providing loss control consultation to reduce both employer premium costs and workers' compensation claims through improved safety, hygiene, work environment, and policies. The role also includes reviewing assigned employer protests & appeals and issuing decisions, as well as collaborating with other BWC Departments to resolve employer inquiries related to coverage, jurisdiction, invoicing, payroll & premiums, independent contractor issues, and discount programs.

Requirements

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, insurance & risk management or related field of study.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • 2 years of experience in a public or private insurance organization position that involved insurance sales, marketing or provision of consultative services to commercial clients/employers.
  • Knowledge of insurance & risk management; risk classification; experience rating procedures; claim handling & reserving; rehabilitation services; workers' compensation laws, policies & procedures.
  • Skill in operation of personal computer.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write meaningful, accurate & concise risk reviews.
  • Ability to gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things.
  • Ability to answer routine & technical inquiries from employers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned employers to consult and assist regarding premium rates, NCCI manual classifications, BWC’s rating, discount & incentive programs, available grants, and the importance & necessity of loss control programs.
  • Contact assigned new and existing employers to market, support, and implement various BWC initiatives.
  • Provide loss control consultation to reduce both employer premium costs & workers’ compensation claims by improved safety & hygiene, work environment & policies within assigned employer account portfolio.
  • Work with Employer Programs to enroll employers in the loss control programs.
  • Review assigned employer protests & appeals and issue decisions to grant or deny based on ORC, OAC, BWC rule and applicable policy.
  • Work with other BWC Departments to resolve employers’ questions and problems related to coverage, jurisdiction, invoicing, payroll & premiums, independent contractor issues, and discount programs.
