About The Position

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee In Charge (EIC) to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners. The role helps ensure work on railroad rights-of-way is conducted safely, including coordinating with dispatchers and train crews and enforcing applicable railroad, state, and federal policies. The position operates in a field environment alongside active tracks, with travel expected 50% to 85% of the time. The selected candidate must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, drug/alcohol testing, and classroom training.

Requirements

Proficiency in using tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes for months at a time.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department.
Ability to successfully complete federal, client-specific, and/or company-specific training.
Must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, drug/alcohol testing, and classroom training.

Responsibilities

Provide on-track safety, including setting up derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
Coordinate job-site activities.
Contact dispatchers and train crews by radio to communicate worksite safety status.
Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
Enforce all railroad, state, and federal policies.
