About The Position

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners. The role ensures that work on railroad rights-of-way is conducted safely and includes coordinating worksites alongside active tracks. The position is based in Brownwood, Texas, and requires travel 50% to 85% of the time, potentially for extended periods of months. Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks and drug/alcohol testing, and complete classroom training.

Requirements

Proficiency using tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department.
Ability to successfully complete federal, client-specific, and/or company-specific training.
Ability to pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks and drug/alcohol testing, and complete classroom training.

Responsibilities

Provide on-track safety, including setting up derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
Coordinate job sites.
Communicate with dispatchers and train crews by radio about worksite safety status.
Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
Enforce railroad, state, and federal policies.
