About The Position

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners. The role ensures that work on railroad rights-of-way is conducted safely and includes coordination with dispatchers, train crews, and worksite personnel. This field-based position works alongside active tracks and requires travel 50% to 85% of the time, sometimes for extended periods lasting months. Candidates must successfully complete applicable Federal, client, and/or company training. Selected candidates must also pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks and drug/alcohol testing, as well as classroom training. Compensation is $28 to $37 per hour, based on experience.

Requirements

Proficiency using tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company.

Nice To Haves

Railroad company experience in the maintenance of way department is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide on-track safety, including setting up derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
Coordinate job-site activities.
Communicate with dispatchers and train crews by radio about worksite safety status.
Conduct mandatory, clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with crew members before they enter the track.
Enforce railroad, state, and federal policies.
