About The Position

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners. The position ensures that work on railroad rights-of-way is conducted safely. The role is based in Palm Bay, Florida, and involves working in a field environment alongside active tracks, with travel expected 50% to 85% of the time. Extended travel may last for months at a time. Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and classroom training. The position requires successful completion of applicable Federal, client, and/or company-specific training.

Requirements

Proficiency using tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes for months at a time.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department.
Ability to successfully complete Federal, client, and/or company-specific training.
Ability to pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, drug/alcohol testing, and classroom training.

Responsibilities

Provide on-track safety, including setting up derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
Coordinate activities at job sites.
Communicate with dispatchers and train crews by radio about worksite safety status.
Conduct mandatory, clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
Enforce railroad, state, and federal policies.
