Employee Benefits Consultant, US

HapplNew York, NY
$85,000 - $100,000Remote

About The Position

We are seeking our first dedicated Employee Benefits Consultant for the US market. This role involves managing the day-to-day delivery of employee benefits for Happl's US customers, including renewals, enrollment cycles, and compliance administration. The consultant will also serve as the in-house expert on the US benefits market, contributing to the development of future product features for the region. This is a hybrid role blending strategy and delivery, requiring comfort with both hands-on account management and compliance administration, as well as product discussions. The position will also support sales and customer success efforts as the US customer base grows. It is important that the candidate is comfortable with both strategic and administrative tasks, as the role is designed to include significant administrative responsibilities that are not immediately slated for automation. Happl is not a licensed insurance broker, and this is not a broker-of-record role. The consultant will manage compliance and administrative tasks related to insurance products and coordinate with customer-appointed broker partners, rather than replacing them.

Requirements

  • A working understanding of US employee benefits, including plan types, carriers, enrollment cycles, and the compliance landscape (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and relevant state rules).
  • Comfort switching between strategic conversations and detailed, sometimes manual, administrative work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A self-directed, remote-first work style.
  • Sufficient overlap with Eastern Time to support US customers and collaborate with the Happl team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a licensed benefits broker or working within a brokerage.
  • Prior experience at an insurtech, benefits platform, or PEO/HRIS company.
  • A technical mindset, including comfort with spreadsheets and an understanding of software development processes.
  • Ability to write clear product requirements, even without writing code.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of employee benefits programs for Happl's US customers, including open enrollment, new hire onboarding, plan changes, and renewals.
  • Act as the main point of contact for US customers on benefits questions, escalations, and carrier/vendor issues.
  • Liaise with insurance carriers, broker partners, and other vendors on behalf of Happl's customers to resolve issues and ensure smooth plan operation.
  • Own the manual tasks and administration supporting insurance products, including ACA reporting support, COBRA administration, ERISA disclosures, ID cards, plan documents, and state-specific requirements that are not automated by the product.
  • Identify and flag compliance risks early, working with customers and internal teams to resolve them.
  • Maintain and update Happl's internal playbooks and processes for US compliance as regulations change.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams as a subject-matter expert on US employee benefits, translating market, carrier, and regulatory information into product requirements.
  • Contribute to setting the roadmap for US-specific features, prioritizing based on customer and delivery experience.
  • Represent the needs of the US market in internal planning sessions and communicate Happl's product roadmap to US customers and prospects.
  • Support the sales process for new US customers by providing benefits and compliance expertise during scoping and closing.
  • Provide customer success coverage for US accounts when necessary.
