About The Position

MedVet is a fast-growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide. The Emergency Veterinary Technician works on a collaborative clinical team and provides care in a fast-paced emergency environment. The role involves assessing and prioritizing incoming patients, supporting veterinarians with treatments and procedures, and providing nursing care to hospitalized patients. Technicians also communicate with clients and teammates, perform laboratory testing, and assist with anesthesia and sedation. This is a contingent (PRN) position.

Requirements

• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience; previous emergency experience desired.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
