About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Emergency Veterinary Technician to join its clinical team on a contingent (PRN) basis. The role is suited to technicians who enjoy a fast-paced environment, can shift priorities quickly, and can handle stressful critical situations. The technician supports emergency patient assessment and care, works with the patient care team and veterinarians, and communicates with clients about treatment and home care.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience is required.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Previous emergency veterinary experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize care based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients about home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
