Emergency Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
MedVet is a fast-growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide, offering advanced medical treatments and innovations. The Emergency Veterinary Assistant joins a collaborative clinical team and helps deliver the MedVet experience for clients, patients, and teammates. The emergency environment is fast-paced, with varied cases and critical situations that require the ability to shift gears quickly and work effectively under stress. Proposed hours are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Prior veterinary experience is required; previous emergency experience is desired.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant-rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Previous emergency veterinary experience.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
- Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Provide client education, including home-care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
- Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
