About The Position
MedVet is a growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide, offering advanced medical treatments and innovations. The Emergency Veterinary Assistant joins a collaborative clinical team and helps deliver the MedVet experience through teamwork, leadership, and compassion. This fast-paced emergency role suits someone who can shift gears quickly and handle critical situations. The proposed schedule is Sunday 8:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m., Monday 11:00 a.m.–11:30 p.m., and Tuesday 1:00 p.m.–1:30 a.m. The hiring range is $17.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Previous emergency veterinary experience is desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
- Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Educate clients on topics including home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
- Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
