About The Position

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The role supports emergency patient assessment and prioritization, veterinary treatment and procedures, client communication, and nursing care for hospitalized patients. It suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can shift gears quickly, and handles the stress of critical situations. Proposed hours are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous emergency veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients on home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
• Assist veterinarians with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
