About The Position

The Emergency Veterinary Assistant joins a collaborative clinical team and helps deliver the MedVet experience to clients, patients, and teammates through teamwork, leadership, and compassion. The emergency environment is fast-paced and varied, requiring the ability to move between tasks, shift gears quickly, and handle stressful critical situations.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience is required.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant-rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Previous emergency veterinary experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education, including home-care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
