About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative, driven Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The Emergency team works in a fast-paced environment with varied cases and critical situations. The role supports patient assessment and treatment, client communication, and nursing care for hospitalized patients. The proposed schedule is Wednesday 11 a.m.–11:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.–8:30 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m.–8:30 p.m. The hiring range is $17.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a drug screen and background check.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant-rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Previous emergency veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize care based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients on topics including home-care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
• Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
