About The Position

VEG is hiring an Emergency Veterinarian for its Annapolis, Maryland hospital. The role provides emergency veterinary care in a customer-centered, team-oriented environment. The veterinarian sees patients promptly, handles cases ranging from routine emergencies to complex surgeries, and treats a variety of pets, including exotics. VEG supports learning and career growth through mentorship, education programs, and emergency-focused continuing education.

Requirements

DVM or equivalent degree.
Experience or capability in emergency medicine, including soft-tissue emergency surgery and endoscopy.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis according to hospital needs.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with people from varied backgrounds and personality types.
Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

Answer medical questions over the phone.
See patients promptly using VEG Triage and VEG Spikes, including ensuring customers see a doctor right away and allowing families to stay with their pets.
Gather patient signalment, presenting complaint, vital signs, and physical examination findings.
Conduct animal examinations and investigative procedures such as ultrasounds, X-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies.
Diagnose each pet's condition and create a diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
Communicate diagnoses and treatment options directly to customers.
Prepare and present estimates to customers.
Create and review medical records for accuracy.
Explain the value of tests and treatments and address customer concerns.
Perform minor and major emergency surgeries.
Perform endoscopic procedures.
Educate customers about aftercare and preventive measures where appropriate.
