About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA is proud to offer our Emergency Veterinarian Mentorship Training Program, EmERge. Our EmERge program helps you obtain the skills and the confidence that you need to be a successful Emergency Veterinarian at one of our state-of-the-art hospitals. The program is offered beginning in January and in June annually. This is a one-year training program, followed by a one-year post-EmERge commitment. The program is divided into 3 phases: Phase 1 (Weeks 1-14) includes 4 weeks of Bootcamp (virtual and in-person), 2 weeks of Specialty Rotations, and 8 weeks of ER Shifts. Phase 2 (Weeks 15-32) involves increased responsibility, ER Shift focus, ongoing mentorship, exposure to diverse cases, and ongoing didactics. Phase 3 (Weeks 33-52) focuses on independent case management, continued collaboration, advanced skill application, mentor support, and ongoing didactics. Requirements

  • Graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary school.
  • Passed (or pending) the NAVLE.
  • Have (or be eligible for) a license to practice in the state of interest.

Responsibilities

  • Build foundational emergency medicine skills.
  • Gain exposure to various specialties to enhance understanding and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Apply training in a real-world setting under the mentorship of experienced emergency clinicians.
  • Transition to managing more complex cases with greater independence while still receiving guidance from mentors.
  • Work full shifts in the ER, continuing to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Handle a variety of emergency cases to broaden expertise and build confidence in emergency medicine.
  • Take on full responsibility for managing emergency cases, showcasing confidence and competence in clinical decision-making.
  • Work alongside the hospital team to provide exceptional patient care while honing leadership and communication skills.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic and procedural skills gained throughout the program to handle high-acuity cases.
  • Deliver expert care to critically ill or injured pets.
  • Utilize cutting-edge diagnostic tools and perform life-saving procedures.
  • Engage with pet owners compassionately, providing clear communication on medical conditions and treatment plans.
