About The Position

The Missoula Interagency Dispatch Center manages initial and extended attack of fires on the Southwestern Land Office, Lolo National Forest, and CSKT tribal lands, and regularly assists other federal and state government agencies with wildland incidents. The interagency dispatch center also assists the Northern Rockies Coordination Center in mobilization of federal, State, and local resources for fires and other non-fire incidents on a State, regional and nationwide level. Purpose of the job: This position will generally and normally be assigned to the Missoula Interagency Dispatch Center and works under the guidance and direction of the Dispatch Center Manager and is a direct report to DNRC Assistant Center Manager. The position is expected to use initiative and judgment, under standard operating procedures, to dispatch resources for initial attack and support of wildland fires during complex and multiple incidents that are beyond the scope of developed guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent, completed 36 months.
  • In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card"

Responsibilities

  • Mobilizes local, state, and federal firefighting forces in order to provide initial and extended attack fire suppression actions for wildland and wildland/urban interface fires reported for the responsibility areas of the Southwestern Land Office DNRC, Lolo National Forest, Flathead Agency/National Bison Range, Missoula Field offices of the BLM and 10 counties
  • In support of large fires or other incidents, the dispatcher determines needs and plans and initiates an appropriate support organization to mobilize firefighting or other resources for incidents within the MDC Dispatch Zone and, upon request, for statewide or national incidents.
  • Gathers and interprets fire-related intelligence to provide current and accurate information needed by dispatchers, incident commanders and fire managers.
