About The Position

Haywood Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is hiring an Emergency Services Technician (ED Tech) for its 17-bed Emergency Department. The department has a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and a collaborative team of RNs, CNAs, paramedics, secretaries, and providers. It sees approximately 74 patients per day and treats a wide variety of conditions, including abdominal pain and shortness of breath; the department also has chest pain accreditation.

The ED Tech provides basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN, supports patients with personal care and activities of daily living, reports changes or abnormal findings to nursing staff, and helps maintain clean, stocked, and orderly patient rooms and common areas. The position is PRN, with a varying schedule.

Requirements

• Have a current listing as an EMT or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the North Carolina Division of Facility Services.
• For CNA applicants, have a current North Carolina Division of Facility Services listing with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property in a nursing-care facility.
• Hold AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrate critical-thinking skills and decisive judgment, and be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an approved EMT Paramedic or EMT Intermediate program.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly measuring blood glucose, and recording intake and output.
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Help keep patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean, and orderly.
