About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Sandy Springs, Georgia, is seeking a full-time Emergency Service Head to lead and support its emergency service. The role works alongside board-certified specialists, emergency clinicians, experienced veterinary technicians, and hospital leadership to deliver high-quality medicine and support the continued growth of the emergency service. BluePearl’s Sandy Springs hospital provides 24/7 emergency medicine and specialties including cardiology, diagnostic imaging and radiology, internal medicine, neurology/neurosurgery, oncology, and surgery. Its advanced capabilities include MRI, a 16-slice helical CT scanner, gamma camera, I-131 therapy, flexible and rigid endoscopy, CO2 laser, and an in-house commercial diagnostic laboratory with a clinical pathologist. The Emergency Service Head oversees ER clinician scheduling, mentorship, case management support, collaboration between emergency and specialty services, patient safety reporting, recruiting, and service improvement. The role also works with hospital leadership on personnel matters, client concerns, and capital purchases for the ICU/ER department.

Requirements

DVM degree from an accredited university.
Successful completion of an internship and/or at least three years of ER experience.

Responsibilities

Manage schedules for ER clinicians, including PTO requests, depending on location.
Facilitate regular ER clinician meetings and participate in hospital leadership meetings.
Mentor ER clinicians and new ER/ICU support staff.
Oversee ER clinician case management and provide guidance on case-management decisions as needed.
Integrate emergency and specialty services to manage hospitalized cases; act as a sounding board between ER and specialty clinicians and discuss concerns with the Medical Director.
Assist with implementing and monitoring patient-safety reporting for the emergency department.
Contribute to recruiting emergency clinicians and ensure new hires are assigned a mentor.
Assist with customer-service issues and help management follow up and resolve issues as appropriate.
Partner with hospital leadership to identify opportunities and implement initiatives to improve ER patient care, medical protocols, and client service levels.
Stay informed about hospital conditions and concerns; collaborate with the Medical Director, P&O, and hospital leadership on ER/ICU personnel matters and assist with performance reviews.
Assist the management team with client and pDVM concerns when necessary.
Work with the management team to oversee capital purchases for the ICU/ER department.
