About The Position
The Emergency Medical Technician for the Emergency Room assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. The role works under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or Registered Nurse, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing delegation and supervision guidelines. The EMT may perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed; provides patient care, emotional support, and problem solving in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policies and procedures; and maintains a clean, safe environment with adequate supplies and equipment. The position also involves collecting data relevant to the patient population, transporting patients safely within the hospital, maintaining advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities, and interacting with physicians, patients, families, staff members, and the community.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Certified in Virginia as an EMT-Advanced, EMT-Intermediate, or EMT-Paramedic.
- AHA BLS-HCP and ACLS required.
- Maintain continuing education hours to meet state and national recertification standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living, comfort care, and nutritional support under appropriate supervision.
- Perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed.
- Provide patient care, emotional support, and problem solving in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Collect data as pertinent to the patient population.
- Transport patients within the hospital while observing safety guidelines.
- Maintain advanced transport medical knowledge and abilities.
- Interact with physicians, patients, families, staff members, and the community.
