About The Position

Hants Community Hospital (HCH) is seeking full-time or part-time emergency medicine physicians to join their team. There is an opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University, as well as, local simulation-based opportunities. HCH ED is approximately 40 minutes drive from the region's tertiary care pediatric facility, the IWK Health Centre, and the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. HCH services include a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient care (28 hospital beds), a long-term care facility (32 beds), surgery programs including general and orthopedic surgery, several specialty clinics (including obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, hematology), and a mental health team. On-call services are provided from Halifax and Kentville.

Requirements

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Family physicians must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • Current PALS Certification.
  • Current ATLS Certification.
  • Current ACLS Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include full scope of practice as an emergency physician.
  • The physician will be responsible to the department head for emergency medicine for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
