About The Position

Bassett Healthcare Network (BHN) has six Emergency Departments and three Convenient Care locations and offers three employment tracks. In the combination track, practitioners provide care at four emergency departments and two urgent/convenient care clinics. Shifts are scheduled regionally at nearby locations, and practitioners must be able to work at all sites. The Convenient Care Only track involves evaluating and treating a wide range of non-emergent medical conditions, performing minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, and incision and drainage, and interpreting ancillary tests including labs, urinalysis, x-rays, and EKGs. Practitioners provide prompt, thorough care, treat urgent conditions, and recognize emergencies requiring referral to a higher level of care. This track requires prior Emergency Department experience or transition from the combination track. In the Independent Practice track, Advanced Practice Clinicians work independently in a Critical Access Hospital ED, consulting an attending physician as needed. They assess patients, provide quality care, determine disposition, and stabilize patients using necessary lifesaving procedures. These may include endotracheal intubation, central line or IO placement, surgical cricothyrotomy, chest tube placement, and emergent childbirth/delivery. The role also includes medical workups, laboratory testing and result interpretation, radiology interpretation, and transferring, discharging, or admitting patients as appropriate. Practitioners in this track must have a postgraduate emergency medicine fellowship or prior experience working independently in an emergency department. The role is part of an established group of physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians. Candidates may change tracks as they gain experience or their scheduling needs change. Previous Emergency Medicine and/or Fast Track/Urgent Care experience is preferred. The advertised salary range is $138,321–$145,071, and a sign-on bonus of up to $50,000 is offered. A supportive transition bonus of $5,000 and a full onboarding program are also provided.
