About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a full-time permanent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program Specialist to join their team at the PCC Cascade campus. This role will focus on supporting clinical coordination and EMS simulations. The specialist will provide direct student instruction in the classroom, skills lab, and simulation center, which includes programming and calibrating mannikins, maintaining the simulation center and equipment, managing audio/video recording systems, developing and implementing simulations, facilitating simulation sessions, and conducting structured debriefings. Additionally, the position involves managing and coordinating student placements, activities, and documentation for clinical and field rotations, requiring collaboration with external clinical partners. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health services or related public safety field (fire protection, criminal justice, emergency management, paralegal), or equivalent experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated experience as an EMT-Paramedic with prehospital and emergency medical experience.
  • State of Oregon Paramedic certification.
  • Oregon EMT Instructor certification.
  • Current CPR Instructor certification.
  • Basic Trauma Life Support or Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor certification.
  • Ability to obtain ACLS Instructor certification and PALS Instructor certification within six months of employment if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating high-fidelity simulation equipment (e.g., Laerdal).
  • Healthcare simulation certification (CHSE/CHSOS or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct student instruction in the classroom, skills lab, and sim center.
  • Program and calibrate mannikins.
  • Maintain the simulation center and equipment.
  • Manage audio/video recording systems.
  • Develop and implement simulations.
  • Facilitate simulation sessions.
  • Conduct structured debriefings.
  • Manage and coordinate the placement, activities, and documentation of students in clinical and field rotations.
  • Coordinate, organize, and maintain student background checks, drug screens, and immunization record compliance in accordance with affiliate contracts.
  • Communicate with department faculty and staff regarding the needs of the EMS program.
  • Coordination, organization, inventory reporting, and maintenance for the EMS equipment/supply room/sim center.
  • Participate in the coordination, evaluation, and organization of State Exams and program exams.
