About The Position

The City of Hemet Fire Department is currently recruiting for the position of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Coordinator. This role involves planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the delivery of emergency medical care activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and developing continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs. The position is responsible for coordinating EMS Continuing Education (CE) Provider programs, conducting needs assessments for EMS training, and managing skills maintenance programs. It also involves developing and implementing CQI programs, serving as a liaison with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders, advising on paramedic training, and assisting with equipment and budget evaluations. The EMS Coordinator also implements the HFD Infection Control Plan and serves as the Designated Infection Control Officer.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience as a Paramedic, Emergency Room Nurse, Physician’s Assistant, Physician, Fire Department EMS Coordinator, Pre-Hospital Manager/Coordinator, or Pre-Hospital Educator.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of a California Registered Nurse License, Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic License, or Physician’s Assistant License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Instructor certification from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Nursing, Education, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or related field.
  • Experience in the method and evaluation of course instruction.
  • California State Fire Marshal Instructor Certification, and/or other course work related to instructional methodology is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the delivery of emergency medical care activities.
  • Ensures compliance with local and state regulations and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs.
  • Serves as the Program Coordinator for the EMS Continuing Education (CE) Provider program.
  • Maintains required education files to insure CE provider status.
  • Develops evaluations and tests for all continuing education activities.
  • Conducts periodic needs assessments of the EMS program for curriculum planning and development.
  • Coordinates skills maintenance program and identifies advanced life support and basic life-support training needs.
  • Reviews EMS Reports and provide feedback to EMS personnel.
  • Develops and implements continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs by reviewing and analyzing EMS effectiveness, system trends, and needs.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a co-liaison for EMS-related issues with State and Local regulatory agencies, base hospital personnel, paramedic receiving center personnel, other fire agencies, medical equipment suppliers, paramedic training institutes, citizens, and other agencies / individuals associated with pre-hospital care.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relations, information sharing / dissemination, conflict resolution, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Advises paramedic training candidates throughout the training process.
  • Assists in evaluating and selecting equipment and supplies appropriate for pre-hospital emergency medical care.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating section expenditures, including recommending budget items, evaluating past fiscal spending, and anticipating future spending.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and participates on a variety of committees as a representative for HFD.
  • Implements the HFD Infection Control Plan and serves as the Designated Infection Control Officer.
  • Provides oversight and coordination of a variety of EMS programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
