About The Position

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Position Overview The EMS Education Officer: * Promote and coordinate a comprehensive education program within ERS. * Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure safe, effective and appropriate patient care that will shape an environment for clinical and service excellence. * Provide support for and participate in the accreditation process. * Ensure staff are proficient, competent and have the knowledge necessary to provide high quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Primary Care Paramedic program from an accredited Canadian education institution, or a College of Paramedics of Manitoba approved equivalent.
  • Certificate of Practice with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba at the Primary Care Paramedic level, and is a member in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), level C or equivalent.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from an accredited training provider or must successfully complete the certification within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrate and encourage others to follow the principles of the LEADS framework; Leading themselves, engaging others, achieving results, developing coalitions, and participating in Systems transformation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must provide a Physical Fitness Assessment by an approved fitness assessment provider.
  • Travel by multiple vehicle types, where inclement weather conditions are anticipated. General risks of responding to a variety of ERS calls.
  • Infrequent exposure to a variety of high stress, physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding situations, and increased potential for exposure to communicable disease.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required, including frequent lifting of patients and equipment (80+lbs/36.3+lg).
  • Must have a valid Class 4 Manitoba driver’s license (at a minimum) and use of a personal motor vehicle for travel within the zone and province as required.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
  • An employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions in Shared Health that combine to equal more than 1.0 FTE.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing education programs and 2 years at an Advanced Life Support level are preferred.
  • Graduate of Advanced Care Paramedic program preferred.
  • Instructor status in BLS, PALS, NRP, ACLS, PHTLS is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds; experience in the use of Shared Health ERS and Digital Health technology, software programs, and equipment; and the ability to speak multiple languages and competence in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions and values are considered assets.
